One Fell Swoop

Some fugacious thought

Ran rampant through

My vivid imagination

Lingering just long enough

To taste the remnants

Of other careless ideas

In one fell swoop

The potboiler hustled

His metaphors on the corner

Of lugubrious and incongruous

While the watchman for the cabal

Watched with amusement

Certainly not the time for ellipsis
Nor pinchbeck

Such a stygian night for expression

Maybe tomorrow will bring a

Luculent understanding

And a good sapid cup of coffee

No tautological meter required

A nimiety of flufferage*

Bequeathed to all for analysis

Dare I say: “Webster, anyone”?

*my own personal word for the past tense of fluff
