From the Desk of Devin Jeanel

January 19, 2008: There are so many new and exciting things happening at The Starlite Cafe that is hard to know where to start. So let me begin by catching you up.

First, thanks to you, we are growing. In the last three weeks, we have gained 200+ new members. This is all due to you. You have reached out to new members whose poems have appeared on the front page. You have asked to be their friends. You have given them comments and encouraged them. It is all YOU. Thank you very much. The more members we have, the more we can accomplish our goals. In Feburary, I'm going to be kicking off a big initiative. It is something that we could not have dreamed of doing without the membership that we have. It is going to be quite exciting.

Celebration!!! has been launched this month. Ingrid is doing a fantastic job with that feature. This is a place for us to celebrate together by allowing Starliters the ability to post messages and/or poems in honor of some event. So if you have a special event that you would like to share with your fellow Starliters, contact Ingrid and give her the details. Whenever a celebration is built for you, an email from Starlite is mailed out to your friend's list so they can come and celebrate with you. Here are the first celebrations.
Celebration of return to good health!
Nate has turned 75!!
The Cheese Maker is turning 65
Marvin Goldfarb is turning 21, again
Everett DeValle is having a Birthday
First Anniversary
Tess is a grandmother

A follow up project to the Celebrations!!! is The Birthday Club. We recognize that a birthday is one of the most important celebration points in a person's life. Starting in February, we will build an celebration for anyone in the birthday club automatically. If you want to have a celebration for your birthday go to your profile (Admin link under your picture). You will see a new field on your profile for Birthday Club and add your birthday in the exact format of MM/DD (for May 12th, it would be 05/12). Remember it will be a program reading this information. They are quite dumb. They have to have it in the exact format.

Featured Book of the Day. Myrna D. is investigating the interest level of this possible new feature. We are looking to see if there are enough published authors interested in promoting their books on the front page of Starlite for FREE. If you are interested, then contact Myrna.

Changes in the Management Team: Raivenne has resigned as Moderator of the Starlite Writing Challenges. For those that know her, you know that Raivenne is one of the hardest working ladies that you will ever meet. She has been incredible in helping the challenges through this transition. She has my upmost respect. At the same time, I fully understand the pulls and demands on ones life while balancing so many different areas. I love Raivenne's writings and look forward to more of it. For now, all challenges will be reporting to me directly. We will be doing a deep dive into how these challenges are working. If you have any thoughts about this area, this is the time to let me know. Contact Devin Jeanel

Additional URL to access our home: The Starlite Cafe is our home. However, it is easy for people to misunderstand and end up going to http://StarliteCafe.com (a fake poetry site with nothing but advertising). For this reason, we have purchased a new url called http://StarlitePoetry.com It will take the user to our same website. The url will even be converted to http://thestarlitecafe.com/. However it is much easier to tell someone and much easier to remember. If they happen to misunderstand you and go to http://StarlightPoetry.com no fears, we have that covered as well. In fact, if they go to http://StarlitePoems or http://StarlightPoems, they will still find us. You will be seeing more and more of our outward facing names using the http://StarlitePoetry url. It should help our new users find us better.

Music: Bonnie ( or TinyTeddy) has been aggressively updating the music area. The new music is now appearing for both your homepages and backgrounds for your poems. Note: the music preview does not contain these songs yet. If you would like to have a special song, Bonnie does take requests. Let Bonnie know what you want to hear. If you think she has not been busy, check out this list of music she has added.
