I logged on today and wow what a shock to find my poem was plagarized by a starlite poet called Lustifer. Here is what I wrote June 6 2008

Now below you will see Lustifer's plagarized
version though he added a few sick things into the poem that as you can see is not on my original poem. This is Lustifer's plagarized version of my poem below

Plagerism is a serious offence. It saddens and angers me that people need to do this and claim it as their poem and add their sickness to my poem. I asked Devin for IMMEDIATE removal of him. Stealing other peoples poem is WRONG and an offense in my mind

Starlight1,
I have no idea why you seek to attack me, and create a poisonous unpleasant atmosphere on this site.
Many poets would be thrilled that their work was used as an inspiration for another poet, but you see it only as a negative, and then spread lies and public messages demeaning me.
Plagerism by definition would mean I had copied your work and called it my own, which I have not done.
What I did was read a poem that you had written and was inspired to write a similar poem in a different way with a different perspective.
That is not plagarism, but if you feel affronted that your work could inspire another poet, then I will by all mean remove the poem.
Please stop harassing me with your other alias's and writing me disgusting emails. You pretend to be a nice person...which you are not.
You have attacked me publically on this site before, and others as well. Sooner or later you will offend the wrong person and this entire site will be destroyed for all of us.

Well Starlight1, I have read the two poems and understand your concern. There are a couple of things to mention...You obviously have been having disagreements with the poet in question, as most of us know already. Could this be his way of 'getting back' at you? Plagiarism is rife on the internet and the law is really not clear on this.
Plagiarism is theft of another person's writings or ideas. Generally, it occurs when someone steals expressions from another author's composition and makes them appear to be his own work. Plagiarism is not a legal term; however, it is often used in lawsuits. Courts recognize acts of plagiarism as violations of Copyright law, specifically as the theft of another person's Intellectual Property. Because copyright law allows a variety of creative works to be registered as the property of their owners, lawsuits alleging plagiarism can be based on the appropriation of any form of writing, music, and visual images.
The problem really is copyright! I can understand your concern but I think there is nothing you can do except congratulate yourself that someone thought your poem/ideas were good enough to copy in parts. On the other hand, assuming the 'other poet' is not completely insane, his posting is meant to cause you distress. I don't know if Devin would be able to do anything about the situation except perhaps ask him a question about the poem source and then take a decision.
I do hope you get some closure to your ongoing problems, but I really think it is becoming a 'tit for tat' situation.

Lustifer, I am afraid you are wrong on the term plagiarism...It is taking the Idea, form and even part writing of another. It is a copywright problem when a name is signed to another's work.
However, there is certainly an unpleasant feeling which arrives when you two get upset. I would never take sides, but I think both of you should step back and try to sort things out. I think, Lustifer you are going a little far when you say the poem by Starlight1 inspired you! Please, give the rest of us a little credit. LOL. If I wanted to use another poets writing I would at least have the decency to ask their permission. Now the two of you really have to wise up and stop this continual harassement. |

Plagiarism as defined in the descriptor you give it would mean that none of us could write anything, for we are all influenced by the thoughts, teachings, readings, writings and media presentations around us.
I have removed the poem, but I stand on the principle that it could have been seen as a compliment, however, as you have inferred my use of the wording "inspired" is perhaps a adjective concilitory stretch given the poem in question that is the basis of this discussion.
I learned only after several weeks of starlight1's previous postings about me in this forum,and her use of this medium to attack me, was unprovoked. My improvement of her original work, was certainly in part inspired by those inflamatory postings. I intended it only as a genetle nude to reality, not harassment. the original poem had an idea, that was nice but didn't go anywhere. I have no interest in Starlight1and her harassing comments on my work, and if devin wants to delete me, then that is his choice. I should point out that I took no such action as asking for her to be deleted when she posted public defamatory comments about me.
The poem in question might have remained a quiet nudge except she apparently as usual overreacted. |

How things change Starlight , you wrote a collab with Brampton ( Michael ) back on 6/30/08 , remember "You Are The Wind Beneath My Wings , you did that together only back in June

Starlight I have had 4 poems plagairised in the past few months where two other poets claimed my poems as theirs by writing their name beneath my poems , that was my reason for writing two poems about plagairism .
Also the poem " You Are The Wind Beneath My Wings " is on your list of poems stating it was a collab between you and Michael

star it wasn't about the poem your complaint is in. Devin is dealing with it. you put this out in public forum and we all really do understand that plagurism is wrong but being nasty and swearing
and calling names is just getting way out of hand. this is four threads in two weeks you and michael need to deal with your personal issues outside of the threads. As for the other well you've reported it. get back to writing already and by the way stop insulting everyone with the cussing and name calling.

Did you ever think of how much you annoy everyone else?!? I am not claiming to know everything but at the same time Starlight you can't expect everyone to sit quiet while you fill are mailboxes up with childishness. No one is bossing you around I asked you nicely

You miss the whole point! I am done now with this is does no good to try and make any kind of point with you because in your eyes your the only one right. It's a shame that you have abused this site to air your dirty laundry.
