I just want to say ,even the last two times I have hosted ,its depressing.Its the same people ,whom you could list out even before the challenge starts with the same poems.Some poems differ of course butt he repitition is very bad.Soemone has to do something about it .Seriously ,why dont the other poets join in?I find myself theres a lot of jokes between other members where someone might feel left out .We need new blood.Since I was off the site for a while things have definately deteriorated .Im sorry to say this but this is how I feel. |

I just want to say that I think we should be grateful that we have the same people and that everything has been slow with the holidays and with some of our poets dealing with health issues and not to mention friends and family passing away the site will be slow we have to take this all into consideration. Maybe you could invite new blood to these challenges and as for the jokes between the other members it's all play and anyone and everyone is more then welcome to join in. This makes the challenges more fun in my opinion. I want to personally thank all of you who continue to join in.

I agree with teddy, yes at different times of the year it gets slow in the challenges and to be expected, many of us have jobs and other issues to deal with. every entry is important even if the same people each week we have sent out as many invites as possible and you can too. If you are uncomfortable in these challenges maybe you would prefer the site wides

Im making myself unpopular by saying what I feel .I invited 30 people to join one challenge and two people turned out of that thirty.How many poets are there on Starlite that dont join in ?A lot .Im not saying anyone cant join in the jokes ,Im also saying the old challenges there was more varitey of work to judge.
Im sure that some will agree they would like more participation.Yes,its great for those who join in every week ,but it would be nice if there more joining them.Thats all Im saying ,that it would be nicer if the challenges were busier or maybe it was just my challenges were quiet. |

Sunlight if people want to join they will, you won't bring people in by insulting poets by saying your bored with there writes and starlite sucks. If you want more variety and know chatter in a challenge that is what the site wides are. You have spent all your time being negative and is the same responses you are getting.
You don't thank poets for joining you, or even sound like hosting is a privilage because you are picked and honored with a win. I don't care if I ever win for would love others to win like it actually. I alos have sent out invites over two hundred at a time.
I love the original challenges because we do get to have fun and they aren't cold and bland. I join to support the challenges try every week unfortunately my health has been up and down lately
and I have things at home to do so have missed some. I think saying that it is the same pots everytime, so what at least we are showing up and supporting putting in an effort. You come across like that is a bad thing. I too would love more people to join in I work for it. have been for over a year but when you complain about the writes being boring and repetative you make poets feel unwelcome and unencouraged. So again there are many challenges on the site, lots of variety, so either stop being negative and derogatory towards the poets and site or get out there and do your best like everyone else. It's not about being enemies or who is right or wrong, it is about being gracious and encouraging not acting like the site can force people to enter. But when a host wines and complains throughout a challenge
without thanking the poets or the person who thought there write good enough to win and saying it bores you then obviously you need to look at other challenges. We send out invites continuoasly but is really up to the poets. I myself think any entry given is an honor to the challenge and the host.

Where do you get off with being so nasty.I always thank people who enter.Always .I never ever said I was bored with them .i said more people should join in so it doent become a clique.I never said Starlite sucked EVER ,you are mis quoting me to extremes.I have serious health problmes too but I dont go on about it.
I think this forum is for people to voice their opinions and I didnt expect to be negated by this.I wasnt even picked for the last challenge I did ,it was default and I am always gracious.
A lot of people have said to me they dont post anymore they find it depressing so im nott he only one ,just the only one who has the guts to speak out.
How have I spent all my time being negative,Not in any of my challenges was I negative ,I said one comment and deleted it.Have you a problem with people having an opinion becasue it sounds that way.
When have I not thanked the poets .I have in the last five years always thanked the poets .Most of what you say has no founding.You are using my post here to stain my entire life on this site were its completely untrue.

Dear friends, I'm afraid that each of us is saying just about the same thing, only in very different ways. I think we all can agree that participation in the writing challenges isn't like it used to be in the old days when we had 50 to 60 entries. And we all miss that. And yes, there are poets who always support the old writing challenges. Thats not a really bad thing. It is where we can have fun and get to know each other.
Sunlight, I didn't see what you initially said as necessarily negative. You were asking why a wider diversity of people didn't enter the challenges, and we all wonder that very same thing. I think one of the problems is they are harder to find. And even though it shouldn't be a consideration, the winners don't get their picture on the front page, or the win announced on their home page.
And I suppose it does seem like a clique that the same people leave cutsie comments in the challenges. But as it has been pointed out, anybody can jump in, and will be welcomed. No one likes cliques, or wants to be considered a part of one.
I'm so sorry that we have misunderstood each others motivations in this thread. Starlite is one of the friendliest places that it has been my privilege to participate in. I hope that any of you who have expressed their thoughts here will not feel like you shouldn't have. It is by this type of dialogue that we learn to understand and appreciate each other.
I sincerely hope that this has helped sooth any hurt feelings, and that we can go back to the togetherness that we all love and treasure.

Starlite Poetry is a place where poets and writers of all standards, styles, and creeds can read, comment, or post their own works...We are a friendly community and welcome new friends with open arms. We also have tried to offer something for everyone by creating a new challenge arena but keeping the older more traditional forum for those how prefer it. It is up to you to decide which of the various forums or challenges that you post in; we have a selection to choose from depending on the type of poetry you write.
Most importantly, I hope that the Starlite Poetry will continue to be a place where writers can have fun and everyone can learn from everyone else, regardless of whether they enter into a challenge or win a challenge.
My special thanks go first to our members, and then to our wonderful group of moderators who work daily to ensure that you do have a creative venue to share your work with others. The nature of running Starlite dictates that we spend a great deal of time focusing on the functionsing of all forums and needs of our poets. However None of us, member or moderator should not be afraid to step back on occasion and regard with wonder the fact that WE DO have this site provided free of charge to post, share, and play.
We must respect that not everyone will want to join a challenge whether it be traditional or new challenge. Realistically I know we can never please everyone! However we do try to do as much as we can to accomodate as many as we can by offering something for everyone. We encourage you to choose your area of liking, traditional challenges, new challenges,and private challenges and play in the sandbox there.
