An open letter to all Starliters... (especially those who travel the hallways of the site wide challenges)

I will begin by stating how disappointed and frustrated I am after the goings-on of the past few days in the Site-wide Challenge Arena. I could also add disheartened and angry to that list. I am in my real life right now fighting an episode of acute allergic conjunctivitis in both eyes. For most this would be a non-issue but for me that is not the case. I also received a diagnosis which though didn't surprise me has sure shaken my world a bit and it is a serious issue, again especially for me. I choose not to go into specifics at this time. And I came back to the computer to find a mess.....a totally and to be honest unnecessary mess! My knee jerk reaction was to discontinue EVERY site-wide challenge and say the heck with it. I certainly do not need to deal with this right now... but that would be unfair to those who participate for the sheer joy of doing so.. JUST FOR THE LOVE OF IT. This is the motto of the site and has been since its creation. My second option would be to remove ALL host-voted or make EVERY challenge a non-challenge but again this hardly seemed fair. Neither option is acceptable to me... There is a third option... one that I know will likely offend and/or anger some, but I can assure it would not come close to the anger I am feeling at the moment. This third option is... If ANYONE causes this kind of drama in this challenge or ANY of the site-wide challenges, that person's poem is immediately removed from the challenge and they cannot enter that one particular challenge. They will have to wait until the next challenge. I believe that if this kind of nonsense is caused then the privilege of posting in the challenge is forfeited. I do not enjoy taking this stance but the activities of the last two days WILL NOT BE REPEATED! It might be a good idea to read the Challenge Policies so that in the future if a dispute arises, it can be dealt with in the correct way.

I will leave you with some things to think about...

If the worst thing that befalls you in life is no comment on your work, be grateful... you at least have your work.

If the worst thing that befalls you in life is that you do not win a challenge you thought you should have, be grateful... you at least found words with which to enter and you still have your work.

If the worst thing that befalls you in life is a misunderstanding, be grateful... you at least have the ability to apologize and/or make peace...

and if the worst thing that befalls you in life is that rain clouds the sunset you wish to paint about or the sunrise you wish to write about... be grateful... you can still hear the rain, taste it, feel it upon your skin, and imagine the sunrise or the sunset.. and also look forward to a tomorrow when the rain is gone... again be grateful.. be very very grateful.

I hope I do not offend anyone but I'm sure I have. Let's get back to what we're here for.. writing. And always remember interpretation is a responsibility for both reader and writer and neither is wrong... but they may be different. That being said I also will not tolerate personal attacks on writers who post in these challenges through the comment box. That's not what we're here for people... so let's get on the same page.. it's called writing!

I really do enjoy doing these challenges for all of you.. and I truly do appreciate those who play along. But let's keep it fun okay? It's what its supposed to be...

Do not speak to me loudly so that I might hear you... speak to me softly so that I might listen.

Myrna I am very sorry to hear about your visual problems. Being a retired Optometrist after 31 years of practice, I fully understand your concerns. I was not aware of the issues you wrote about but like you I fully agree. I have been trying to carry on my late husband's [FAP] legacy. I enjoy writing, enjoy reading others and if I can't say anything nice, I say nothing at all. I'll be 78 in December, and if I live to be 100 years of age, I'll never understand this younger generation. They think 'free speech' whether with their mouth or writes is okay. But lack of respect for others is missing.
Frank would never understand the things that are going on at his beloved "Starlite Cafe". He adored Albert Victor and Tess. I support the Cafe and help others to support it so they can feel free to write respectfully. God Bless You for this much needed letter you wrote and may God protect your eyesight as much as possible. Hugs and love ... Aliceanne {Mrs FAP]
