It has been a while since I have posted anything here. Thought I would update you on a couple things.
First, the finances for Starlite are running in the red. The advertising dollars are dropping based on the market demand for advertising space in this economy. It is forcing us to take a look at this site in a new light.
Second, I wanted to let you know that I have been making some changes to the counter. They were based on a file system. Tonight, I have started the process toward a database system. You may have noticed that the site has had a long term problem with counters being zeroed out. This was because of the framework did not know whether the file was not opened correctly or was brand new. The system made the decision to start over again under the assumption that the poem was new.
Anyway... I have change the counter to increment a database counter now. It is in place now. I will let it run tomorrow. The only place that you can read this counter is on the comment page (for present). If this works the way that I hope, then I will replace the other counter location with the display from the database.
Back to the finances briefly... If you haven't donated to the site recently and you enjoy the community and all the free features that it offers, please take a moment and contribute. It is very expensive to keep a site going. We need your help (even 5 dollars a person adds up).
