Here is what was in the newspaper article I just found online.
News

Monday, February 18, 2008
Car strikes teen
Driver flees, then caught and arrested
Sturgis Journal
Rescue personnel take 14-year-old Daniel Turner to a flight helicopter after he was struck by a car Sunday on M-60. The driver is in jail and faces several charges.
THREE RIVERS - A 14-year-old boy was in critical condition Monday at a Kalamazoo hospital after he was struck by a car Sunday afternoon near Three Rivers.
A driver involved in the incident is in jail facing several charges.
St. Joseph County Sheriff's deputies said Daniel Patrick Turner and a friend were walking on the shoulder of M-60 near North Fisher Lake Road at about 6:20 p.m. Sunday when Turner was struck by a car.
Witnesses told police the car left the road and hit Turner.
The Ford Mustang dragged Turner until it crashed into a parked car and a bush, police said. The driver then abandoned the car.
Turner was airlifted to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Police later identified the driver as Sergio Onofre, 20, of Three Rivers,
Witnesses helped a sheriff's deputy and a DNR officer track Onofre.
Another witness called police and said the driver of the car was in the area of North Fisher Lake Road and Thompson Lane.
Trooper Todd Peterson and deputy Steve Bidelman were in the area and captured Onofre as he attempted to flee.
Onofre was taken to the St. Joseph County jail.
Police will be seeking charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing great bodily injury; leaving the scene of a crash; and driving with a suspended license.
Police also said Onofre was wanted on a failure to appear warrant and that more charges may be filed.
He remains in jail with a bond of$175,000.00

I was very upset as I heard of this traggedy on our local news this evening but now I am devestated and heartbroken to learn that this child is the grandson of John and Ambers. I am so terribly sorry for the entire family. What a terrible thing to have happened to this innocent child. And if memory serves me correctly he was with a friend of his while walking. Oh that poor child what he must have gone through after witnessing his friend being hit by this driver who simply took off. If you folks go to google you will learn of yet another 14 yr. old boy and also a 6 yr old boy who were hit by illegal aliens in the past. The 14 yr old did pass away. This is so awful and my heart most certainly goes out to the entire family as do my prayers. May God be with you. ~Jacie~

What a wonderful thing you are doing. Believe me, in the months ahead it is going to be a comfort to know that some part of him lives on in a life saved or made better by him. Our Grandson's body was too damaged so we did not have even that small comfort. Oh how I ache for you. - Mary

Heaven has just recieved it's newest angel, Lord.

I know You will wrap him in Your arms of eternal love. And while You're at it, Lord, why don't You take him over and introduce him to our old dog Wilbur? He was a good old boy, and I'm sure he has his new puppy dog legs by now, and would love to romp with our little Daniel Turner.

My deepest condolences, Amber, Rick, and family.

What a wonderful thing you all are doing.

Because of your unselfishness, someone will probably have the gift of sight. Or someone like our precious Heather will be given a new lease on life. I hope that thought brings you some amount of comfort in the coming days.

God bless.

Hugs...
Jeri

First of all, Thank you all for your wonderful prayers and support... As of 3:16 P.M. Daniel Turner was legally declared dead. Although we were told, most likely he was brain dead from the time of the accident.. The family is donating his organs, as would have wanted.. It will be another day of keeping his body working, until they finish tests to find out what organs haven't been damaged.. He was the first born of 4 boys for Our daughter Tashia.. Which you can imagine, she is totally broken down at the moment. He was 14 years old.. A leader in school amongst his friend, had turned his life around from the life he was living before... As was in the wresting class... A very big boy for his age.. He walked just a few blocks to a grocery store to get a bag of sugar for his mom with a friend.. Early in the day, he had told his mom, not to worry about anything, for he would take care of her.. Since she has been going through rough times...
He was run over by a 20 year old drunk driver, that was a resident of Three Rivers.. He ran from the scene and had to be tracked down... They finally found him as he was about to leave the area... He was also driving under a suspended drivers license and had a warrant out for him from not appearing in court..

Thank you again sooo much....

Oh how my heart breaks for the two of you and
the rest of the family. This is a tragedy above
all tragedies..Losing a child in a family is
something you never get over and it takes lots of
time to ever find the way to live with this grief
you will carry. Having had a son brain dead, I
know the process that you are going through. I
had to give the permission for them to turn off
all those machines. Hardest thing I have ever
had to do in my life. I am here for you. All
of Starlite is and will be sharing in your
sorrow. I love you both...With love, Grandma

I've been there as my older brother was killed
in an automobile accident by a drunk driver.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your

you made. May God touch your entire family
and give you all strength to go on.

Hugs,

I am so very sorry. I know exactly how you feel. In November of 2006 our 19 year old grandson Jeremy was hit and killed by a train. My heart aches for you and the rest of your family. If you ever need to talk to someone who can understand, then please feel free to e-mail me. You have a long hard road ahead of you but he will always live on in your hearts -- MissMarry

I am so sorry Rick and Amber.
Have been shaken to the bones with this tragic news!
My prayers are with you and the entire family.

"Killed by a drunk driver"‏

Our 14 year old grandson is brain dead and on life support...
Hit by a hit and run drunk driver.. An illegal alien, I have heard
that has been arrested. They have been keeping him alive with
life support, though he is brain dead and will most likely not
make it through the day.
His name is Daniel Turner...
He has no chance of living, He has been brain dead most likely,
since he was hit at about 50 mph Yesterday at about 6 P.M.
His body and life was totally distroyed...

A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to seek, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away;
A time to tear, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate,
A time for war, and a time for peace.

I AM SO VERY SORRY TO LEARN THIS HEARTBREAKING NEWS!! Such a senseless waste of life! Will those who drink and drive never learn the heartach that they cause to others by picking up those keys just one more time? I hope whomever has done this has been arrested and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. That does not do much I know for your grieving hearts.

My heart goes out to you John and Amber and you are in my prayers. I hope that you can take comfort that so many of us that care about you, weep with you.

I will contact you by email when you have had a chance to rest and grieve.

I am so very sorry.
