St. Francis Assisi was born to a very wealthy family . When he was finally allowed to go out into the village and saw such poverty he gave up all he had to devote his life to the poor. One day while praying under a tree he received the Stigmata, the five wounds of Christ on his body. He suffered but never stopped serving the people. They built an altar in the spot that he received the Stigmata and it was donated to Greymoor at Garrison, NY. I was just there and the chapel is so quaint. I had put my daughter on the alter when she was a baby. St. Francis was very short and they have a statue of him there. They had actually took a mold of him and made the statue from that mold. interesting! |

My Mom is 83 and just got her first Novel published. It is called Cross Over by Rita Santaniello McGuffey. She even has a promo from Mary Higgins Clark on the cover. So proud of her. Check it out! She even posted a few poems a number of years ago on thestarlitecafe! |

Star Rover username is from Assisi, Italy, not Saint Francis I have heard Assisi, Italy is a beautiful place. I like the way Saint Francis helped animals and fed poor people but I really don't know much about him. San Francisco is named after Saint Francis, and the gays seem to like it there but I really don't see how they could identify with Saint Francis. |
