Hello all!! I am new to putting my literary works out there. If you would all be kind enough to look me up and tell me what you think, I would be most appreciating of your opinion. }}}

Dear respected Starlite Family.

I would firstly like to thank everyone for writing poems and feeling comfortable enough to post their literary works online in a public forum. This takes courage as when we do, we are exposing ourselves to the possiblity of negative critical feedback. I guess it is important to remember that everyone is a unique individual and may have particular likes, dislikes and in the case of critiquing poetry, may have particular ideas of what actually comprises a good poem. Poetry is a form of expression and not everyone may exhibit identical literary styles, yet it is still an attempt at self expression. Personally, I try to understand what the poet's pen is trying to get across to readers, without judgement. Beyond form, there is the content and feeling/thoughts.emotions elicited while we are reading the poem. If we don't understand a poem, perhaps we could just skip writing a comment (personally this is what I would do - because I am just an amateur writer myself and don't have the literary skills to critisize or critique another's poem). But then again, it is up to the invidual reader to make up his or her mind if they feel comfortable to write negative comments (however, I don't see the benefit in doing so as this could spark online heated fights, as mentioned by Shaun). If we do encounter negative comments, as poets, and feel uncomfortable, maybe we could choose for our poems not to have a comments section. Another thing to bear in mind and heart is for us, as readers, to be respectful of others poetry and value the message they are trying to convey. If a poem does not resonate with us, then perhaps leaving a small note of encouragement or no comment may be a better option than picking all the flaws in a poem. I guess we have to be aware that people have feelings and posting a poem opens our hearts to being wounded by words, comments and critiques.

With Love

I am posting these comments here because I am apparently a new member and not allowed to reply or post in the Poets square discussion forum.

In general terms we are all amateur poets here. I personally post some work not for praise but in the hope that someone may relate to the writing. If I do not understand a particular poem or if it does not 'do' anything for me then I am inclined to ignore it. If as 'Clarksdalepoet has stated, someone writes a 'bad' comment then what use is that? the poet can sometimes retaliate and this causes problems. In point of fact I believe this is the wrong way to go.
To be honest there are a few poets here and their words and stanzas make no sense to me at all. That of course is my opinion...I just pass on to the next poet. One of the main problems is that there are so many poems posted on a daily basis and it is very easy to miss one. I think when someone enters a challenge area then the other challengers are most likely to read their fellow challenges. Also, the site is not being managed very well...For instance, having read 'clarksdale' comment I clicked on his name to view his work. Result?...'This homepage no longer exists'!! Also, we can no longer upload our own backgrounds to the site. There are other questions that have been asked in the 'sound off' section but remain unanswered.

I think if admin/management is busy or unable to answer/correct program faults then the members should be told of this. This site is not being correctly maintained, yet I think most of us would understand if we are given the reasons. Does the management require some input or ideas from the poets still here?
The question is....What are the management's future thoughts on the site and in what direction is it heading? Please let us all know. In general. I think we will accept the answers.

Clarksdale, Greetings and Salutations,
Non detrimental critique is one thing and im all for that.
False accusations of child sexual predatory behavior along with
suggestions of imprisonment for one's religious beliefs are non acceptable
and are the sign of someone suffering from a more extreme mental disorder than any I have.
(These individuals leaving such critique are likely direct papal associates)
I would suggest a public manifest of IP addresses and ISP's of all SLC members, (myself included)
on all posts, and all comments, in addition, a required and recognizable SLC profile name
and address required for commenting.
During the late 90's I posted at an NY/NJ based debate site, (was there for about a year) where IP addresses and ISP's were reoutinely made public for all to know
and we had little trouble.
Certainly not what we have had in the SLC challenges as of late with the glorification of pornography
(maybe those who post there have been watchign Game Show Network a bit too much, see "Richard Dawson is a pornographer.")
I avoid the challenges citing the fact I am alreadya two time all star. Now, I will be all too happy to avoid them like they were the bubonic plauge itself.
(or maybe those over there have a pro Charles Darwin slant on the origins of the universe, babboonic plague)
o well at any rate, leave positive critique if you will, tell me what I already know.
Dont go opening up cans of worms,
Coz I sure as 7 hells dont want to have to open this.
