Welcome to the Form Over Substance Challenge! Although forms are used here, We sure hope to see some substance as well. This week we bring you a little form called the Octelle. The Octelle, created by Emily Romano, is a poem consisting of eight lines using personification and symbolism in a telling manner. The syllable count structure for this verse is 8, 8, 7, 7, 7, 7, 8, 8! The rhyme scheme is aa/bb/cc/aa. The first two lines and the last two lines are identical. Example: Dead End Dilly- dally, shilly- shally, Sorrow loiters in the alley; Poverty’s hung out to dry While the hungry children cry; Cost of ghetto life is dear - More than bread is needed here. Dilly- dally, shilly-shally, Sorrow loiters in the alley. Copyright © 2008 Emily Romano This challenge will run until September 7 with a new form posted September 8! If you have a form you would like to showcase in FOS, please mail me at Rains_pink_rainbow@yahoo.ca. Form and information found on Shadow Poetry

Hi Rain, I included an octelle in a poem series, I like its rhytmn, which adds whimsy to irony title: A Babaylan in 22nd St. (vi. A Bottle and a Hopscotch) URL:http://www.thestarlitecafe.com/poems/105/poem_91067176.html "An it harm none, do what 'ye will. An it cause harm, do as 'ye must"
