Form Over Substance Challenges

Welcome to the Dragon's Lair, the world of Form Over Substance! Your moderators are Michael (Bronze Dragon) and Renee (Rain-spirit).

This forum has five challenges designed to familiarize today's poets with the various forms poetry can take. It all started with the Form Over Substance challenge, but has grown into additional challenges.

Form Over Substance Challenge

The Form Over Substance ("FOS") challenge was created by Bronze Dragon (Michael). This challenge is a non-competitive challenge in which the FOS moderators (Bronze Dragon and Rainspirit) present a different form each week, and encourage all FOS participants (FOS-ers) to try the form and post a link to their poem in the FOS thread. Also in the FOS thread you'll find information on iambic pentameter, including the acceptable substitutions employed in the meter.

Once Upon a Haiku

The Once Upon a Haiku challenge was created by Rainspirit (Renee) and is also non-competitive. To participate, simply write a haiku or senryu using the topic given by the last person who posted, and leave your own topic after your haiku. This is great fun, and we hope you'll all stop in and have fun with this haiku chain!

AnyFORM Goes Challenge

The AnyFORM Goes Challenge is a competition housed outside of the discussion forum - the link above will take you to that area, where you'll find the AFG Challenge.

The Pantoum Kingdom

The Pantoum Kingdom is a special place dedicated to writing the world's longest pantoum. This is non-competitive, all for the love of it! Drop in and check it out!

Limerick Gimerick

The Limerick Gimerick challenge is brought to you by popular demand! This is a chain similar in structure to Once Upon a Haiku and The Pantoum Kingdom. Simply write a limerick using the "character" given by the last post and then leave your own character for the next limerick-er to use!
