Personally I think the place to respect meat is when it is growing. The feeding practices used to force growth in animals is shocking. More respect at that end of the food chain please.

During my practice of how I eat, be it Vegan or Carnivorous, I often think of how often things like Meat is wasted because of some who chose not to eat it. Only my view but, I know, no matter what I do, Unfortunately I cannot stop an Animal like a Cow or Fish from being killed for food's sake. If I Chose to not purchase said carnage and let it sit on a market shelf for 3 weeks, then it will waste and rot and be disposed of... now, in my eyes thats a little waste. And far from honoring what has been taken from a rightful place on earth. However, per say if I was a hunter who hunted to survive (forgivingly practical) and not for sport (is wrong), I would find any way possible to Use and not make waste of what I have reaped from life. Down to the bone or hoof. Now, Per say, I was a true Vegan, I would frown upon both the need of meat and/or killing it for sport... and be completely heartbroken looking at the Freezer section of a Grocery Store... for more than a couple reasons, 1) The meat will be eaten, and probably not respected 2) Some meat will be completely discarded of... et.c
A little insight, I have to remain neutral in this discussion because my Metabolic being medically and holistically requires me to (in order to survive) have a balanced diet based on a Pyramid Along with ample vitamins taken by mouth. I just wanted to blurb about this. I like this conversation.
What was here now is gone, What you see is Null.

Tjaden,

Do you feel better now? Feel stronger than the rest of us? Have you laid your insecurities to rest and justified a cruel disrespectful nature?

Good fortune in the trials you have yet to face.

By the way, I don't like you and this is all I have to say.

oh please. does life have to be so freakin deep all the time? Do I have to realize what's on my plate before I eat it in some zen practice to honor the spirit of the kill? I'm not a predator, and neither are most of you. We're scavengers by the truest nature of the word; we do not kill the meat we eat, someone/thing else does, and we enjoy the spoils. Forgive yourself of such deep emotional attachments to your hamburger for crimminy's sake, unless ol' Bessie was in fact yours at one time, and/or you killed the meat yourself. geez. I'm from San Francisco, California and yall look nutty to me with all this "realize what's on your plate, show it honor" garbage.

Thank's Claire,
I have in fact read Adelle Davis & logged onto the
site, which is in my favorites. I also am a member
of http://www.epilepsy.com & http://communities.epilepsy.com/epilepsydotcom, I
find both sites to contain help information as to
the matter at hand. I used to belong to a Online
Support Group for Depression, but my ex-girlfriend
signed onto that site & caused enough problems for
them to boot me. I am trying to form a new one now
and PRAY THAT IT WILL TAKE OFF.

Of course you may ask. My husband is a dietician and this is my source. b vitamins work like a seesaw, they regulate certain things and if you get the wrong balance they tip you over. I may suggest reading books by an author called Adelle Davis for further info.

Claire,

I think the world people have created causes sever depression.

I've never heard that singling out a vitamin supplement could assist in it. May I ask the source of this knowledge?

Sorry I haven't read all of the posts - one bit caught my eye. DON'T take a supplement of just one of the B vitamins- this can cause severe depression.

Thats news to me, but yes what about tribes that could possibly exist who did not have ceremonies and bla bla for killing animals. They just ate the animal and used the fur to keep them warm. I'd be quite content in cases such as these, because its a necessity and nothing is going to waste. Unlike those who cut fins off sharks and leave the sharks to bleed to death!

Michael,

Inuit people, at least those of the past, not only wore the pelt, but ate the flesh as well. They took the animal’s soul into their bodies and merged on a spiritual, life giving level. There’s no shame in this. But to kill and strip the pelt from another being in vanity is, in my mind, a great sin. This film clip from China proves this point, quite dramatically: http://www.east.org.tw/16/fur.wmv WARNING: this clip show’s true evil as animals are being skinned alive… it’s not for the faint of heart or the young… but everyone should be aware of this cruelty… think about it every time they see someone wearing a fur coat… and understand.

Yes too often do people switch for an easier option. It seems everyone thinks they have a seperate case where they shouldn't go out of there way to make time for others...Yet they forget the time people give up for them. Less talk more action. And yeah killing animals for food i have no problem so long as its not wasted. Killing for fur for fashion? No. But if say someone was an inut[i know i've spelt that wrong] maybe an eskimoe? Than sure cover yourself in fur to survive!

Carl,

Vegan is a very healthy diet so long as you watch your balance of protein and make sure you get a wide variety of foods. Unlike a meat diet the proteins in vegetables are limited in their amino acids and you need to mix sources, like beans with rice. Also take a vitamin B-12 supplement.

I was vegan for about 5 years. I did it because I felt that killing animals was wrong. Since then I have changed my outlook on this. Killing animals for enjoyment or to live under their skin (fur coats) is wrong. Tormenting them all of their lives in some industrialized nightmare where they are prodded around and never allowed to live their life is wrong.

Killing and eating the other animals is Nature's way and human beings were created and evolved for this, just as other predators were. This is why the human body suffers from deficiencies when we try to be vegan. Were it not for our technology and the ability it grants to move things all around the globe to be made available to everyone everywhere, most vegans wouldn't live very long.

For those who eat meat… honor the sacrifice. In your plate is a creature who truly died for YOU. I think this must be why some people say grace… the living spirit in every being is a part of God… we should pay them some respect and thanks.

X makes you think you know "things" that people who don't use it don't know. This is untrue, my friend. You've heard of the guy who "invented" the stuff, right? He used GHB in his marriage counciling sessions to get tight couples to open up and talk to each other, with great success, I might add. Even he said that X is for extreme cases of negative emotion, (for lack of a better term describing all kinds of mental maladies), and that X is only a first step in a healing proccess. If you can't do it without drugs, whatever. I have no opinion. Nevermind. Discipline is in short supply these days, that's all. Easy fixes for problems we just don't feel like dealing with are too easily avaliable to trust, for me. 's why becoming a vegetarian seems appealing to me at this point. Like, I've eaten meat my whole life so a challenge would be to stop, and try to maintain a different diet.

}{Well being from the South, and growing up around
" FARMLAND " I've learned to eat fresh off of the
land & what it has to offer. I also was trained
in the " AMAZON, RAIN FORREST " for 2 weeks, there
I ate whatever I caught or saw other animals eat.
Eat what God gave us to eat, that's how I feel.

I'm sure and not sarcastically either.
I did it a few times about six years ago. It was a very healing experience. I was a sufferer of post-traumatic stress disorder and it enabled me to open up to people again. Although I'm still pissed off half the time.
Thanks for sharing. (I'm sober now).
