well, I have been looking for an avenue to discuss The Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints. Joseph Smith restored the Keys of old, those given to the Apostles of Jesus Christ and were lost as the Apostles died out. These are the keys of The Holy Priesthood for Baptism, Laying on of Hands to receive the Holy Ghost and for Healing, Temple work and Missionary Work. My husband holds the Priethood as well as my sons. We are growing by leaps and bounds with Missions all over the earth. I am off to work now, but will add more info later. You have been directed to lds.org where you can find out more... Shirley Young Shirley Ruksznis Young

I am glad that is so, but i must be pesky to ask the mormons belief in man having any authority from God..i.e for the Catholics the Pope, Bishops, Cardinals, and priests etc Does the Mormon Church recognise such authority from God given to man or not? Michael william James

Tess may be a bit disappointed in me – for I’m not going to describe my faith in much detail. It is so easy to try to summarize doctrine – and in the process to actually distort the meaning. Instead I’m going to give you a link to an online site which has extensive information on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, sometimes called Mormons because of the inclusion of the Book of Mormon among our scriptures. http://lds.org/ Joseph Smith is revered by Church members, but not in the sense that “saints” are. He was a prophet as was known in the Old Testament – Moses, etc. Heavenly Father appeared to him and told him that Christ’s path had been distorted by man-made additions. The LDS Church is similar to many other Christian churches because all use Christ’s message as a pattern. If you would like to learn more about Smith, his life and death, and his translation of the Book of Mormon … here’s another link: http://www.josephsmith.net/portal/site To answer Mik’s question about hatred of the Catholic Church. Hatred is not a part of our beliefs. Nor is it EVER acceptable. During the early days after 9/11, President Gordon B. Hinckley - our present prophet and President - was among the first to speak out that faithful Muslims must not be persecuted for the actions of a few. Ours is a faith that believes that following Christ is a 24/7 process – not a one-time second of salvation. We are very involved in the suffering of the world around us. If you would like to learn more about LDS help with Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, here’s another link: http://www.lds.org/humanitarianservices/0,19749,6208,00.html I will be delighted to discuss this more by email with anyone who has questions. I wrote a poem for a Doc Wind Challenge a couple of years ago about the history of our church. If you’re interested, the link to that is: Come, Come Ye Saints!http://www.thestarlitecafe.com/poems/75/poem_8233362013.html ANITA T

We are lucky to have a member of this site who is a member of the Mormon church. That would be Miss Anita, who is a personal friend of mine. Anita has been a bit under the weather today, but I am sure when she is feeling better, she would be more than glad to discuss her faith with you TJ!

I admit i've done more study into the Jehova's than i have Mormons. Im sure alot of mormons wouldn't have liked the south park episode about joseph smith though. I am unsure about the mormon teaching on other Gods, and the whole comming back to America and indian thing etc is a bit sketchy for me to follow. Im Catholic myself but the Church teaches us Nowdays to have an open mind to other religions and christian denonimations but also to have a firm foot in our door. It can be kind of risky having not studied your own religion and faith and then opening the door to people who are to teach you another. I like the mormons general joy in life and welcoming humbleness on the surface that i have seen [i say surface because thats all i've seen] They have asked me to go to there meetings and stuff, but i have to many for my own church to go. I do wonder though because many Christian groups these days generally will admit to a strong Hate towards the Catholic Church [oh not the people though just the church which means the whole community under God...note sarcasm :P] But, yeah i wonder if there is any angst towards the Catholic Church in the Mormon community..not so much the doctrine. I am open minded. When I have time, I welcome in all of the missionaries from the various faiths into my home for open dialouge. I find their devotion to faith refreshing and a a challenge to my own belief system. I have always believed that Jesus would want me to share my faith with these folks the same way they were sharing their faith with me in the spirit of peace and brotherhood. I had a lengthly conversation with some Mormons yesterday, and their version of the afterlife was something I had never heard before. I wrote this poem: http://www.thestarlitecafe.com/poems/93/poem_783387.html about it; Read it if you like...I call out to any Mormons or those who are familiar with the Mormon faith. The Mormon faith described to me yesterday has so many similar archetypes to other sects of Christianity, in terms of the afterlife, morality, etc...I see the only difference between the Mormons and other Christians is the dedication to Joseph Smith as a sort of patron saint instead of...well...all of the many saints in the Catholic church, Martin Luther, etc...comments? Suggestions? |
