Concerning the BP oil well tragedy: This is what happens when you do not regulate business. Leaving large business to do the right thing on their own, such as safety assurances, is like leaving a child alone in a candy store. They just can't be trusted to do the right thing on their own. Their greed always wins over and we suffer the consequences. Had BP been properly regulated, we wouldn't have the catastrophy we are now faced with. We must re-regulate business and get this country back to some sort of sanity. Cheers, Steven (Message edited by c_steven_blue on May 03, 2010) |

Hey cowboy, your president ORDERED the drilling!!!And how do you know that it wasn't a terrorist act that caused the leak? Why did Obama sent a SWAT team down there? Why did he wait 8 days before making an appearance? You need to de-regulate your thinking and start buying ammo....Mexican immigrants are declaring war.We haven't had a terrorist attack in over 8 years and now the New York failure has been attributed to terrorism..yeah,he's doing a great job all right. Its nothing compared to what the illegal Mexican immigrants are going to do. |

The president ordered the drilling? Bubby, if you didn't have such tunnel vision you'd realize that they have been drilling that rig for over six years, long before Obama came along. Start buying ammo? Boy, Bubby, I think maybe you should take a little break from watching Fox for awhile. I know they are pretty whacko on that channel, but hopefully they don't drive all of us crazy too! Terrorists, immigrants, Obama, muslims, Mexicans; wow Bubby, maybe you ought to just slow down and stay away from the news for awhile. No need to let it get you this worked up. There's still a lot to be hopeful about and have faith in, after all. Cheers my friend, Steven |

THE MOST RECENT BP OIL SPILL WAS CARELESS, AND IS DANGEROUS AND DISGUSTING. AND THE WORST DISASTER IN 40 YRS. IT'S A CATCH 22, AS MANY PEOPLE DON'T WANT OFF SHORE DRILLNG IN SHALLOW WATER SO THEY'RE DRILLING IN DEEPER AND DEEPER WATERS. AND THEY ADMIT THEY'RE NOT PREPARED FOR WHAT CAN HAPPEN BELOW 1,500 OR 2,000 FEET OTHER THAN TO FLICK SOME SWITCHES. NOW THEY'RE HOPING THEIR ROBOTS CAN FIX EVEN THE MOST INTRICATE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SPILL BESIDES THE ECONOMIC PROBLEM IT WILL CAUSE THE FISHERMEN ALONG THE LOUISIANA COAST, THE DEVESTATION TO THE ECO SYSTEM WILL BE ENORMOUS. HOW WOULD YOU ALL LIKE TO SUFFOCATE TO DEATH BECAUSE MAN'S EGO IS BIGGER THAN HIS BRAIN? IT IS SPRING, AND THE SPAWNING SEASON. OYSTERS AND SHRIMP WILL BE THE 1ST TO BE DEAD OR DEADLY. THE BULK OF THE DAMAGE WON'T BE FELT FOR A DECADE. BILLIONS ARE PUT INTO NASA FLIGHTS TO OTHER PLANETS BECAUSE IT'S ADVENTUROUS AND EXCITING YET WE STILL CAN'T TRANSPORT WHAT WE NEED RIGHT HERE WITHOUT KILLING THE ENVIRONMENT, LIVES, AND LIVELIHOODS. WE DON'T SEEM TO KNOW OR CARE ABOUT EVEN THE BASICS OF LIVING...HOW TO KEEP THE FLOOR BELOW US AND THE ROOF ABOVE US. FISH AND ANIMALS HAVE A BUILT IN ECO-SYSTEM THAT CLEAN UP AFTER EACH OTHER. HUMANS DON'T. THAT'S WHY WE HAVE TO RELY ON OUR INTELLIGENCE AND FORETHOUGHT TO AVOID MESSES THAT WE CAN'T ALLOW TO HAPPEN. INSTEAD WE PLAY THE ODDS; GAMBLING THAT SUCH AND SUCH SCENERIOS JUST WON'T OCCUR. WE'RE TRASHING THE EARTH LIKE IT'S THE END OF A BIG PARTY OR STORE WIDE SALE....TIL WE'RE JUST A HUNK A HUNK OF BURNING JUNK IF WE DON'T FIND AN ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCE SOON, WE'RE THOUGH.

Sorry, the British Firm HAS been drilling there for years, yet Obama did approve of off shore drilling and also gave millions of dollars to Brazil for them to do off shore drilling and the oil will go to China.China virtually owns our country now. The BP leak is indeed the worst in our history and will wreak havoc on our economy. They promised electric cars over 25 years ago, there was also a man that developed a carburator system that would provide 85 MPG,so what happened to that? We are over $3 per gallon in California, and growing. Alternate power systems(nuclear) would solve much of our power needs. We have a tremendous amount of oil around the Colorado area, but are not allowed to drill for it.Now we have a cap and trade tax proposal that will cost taxpayers more than they can afford. Obama even said that your electric bill will triple.I don't know about you,but paying triple to what I am paying now, would bankrupt me.Of course we are already bankrupt. We just keep printing new money. He also promised to end the war,but it seems like he's escalating it. No goal in sight, just keep fighting..I believe we are in the end times and the Lord is fed up with our antics. |

We can joke about this "stuff". But, there is something deeply unsettling here. This man, our "President", continues to show a deep disregard and probably hatred for a large segment of our population. HE apparently despises the common man, the bulk of our citizenry, the entire middle class and entreprenureal class. I believe he is deeply committed to punishing those HE assumes are un-caring, greedy and probably racist. It is frightening to have a person with this psychosis in such a position of power. His actions are beginning to become quite irrational. And, he has surrounded himself with a cadre of equally dysfunctional people. I used to think that HE was simply a puppet controlled by a shady group in the wings; I now beleive is is truly in control, has surrounded himself with a cadre of like thinkers and is on a path of retribution for those he has hated so deeply his entire life. WE are certainly in trouble. |

Surely you are joking! Surely you are talking about the absolute crazies of the Bush Administration. We finally have an administration that is intelligent and halfway sane and all you do is condemn them. They have accomplished more positive things in their first year than the Bush/Cheney crime family did in eight years! You had eight years of an administration that all belong in jail for life and now you have people in control who are trying to bail us out and undo the whole mess that the Bushies created. What are you smokin' ? |

So what network are you watching?Obama Network News? What pray tell have they accomplished other than putting us trillions of dollars in debt? He partys at the whitehouse with hollywood celebs and rock stars while the gulf states wallow in oil. This administration has done nothing but destroy everything they touch. He won't help Gov Jindal or Louisiana because he's a conservative. You are the joke my friend,if you think he has done anything honorable. But then, you could be on his VIP list for parties.Who knows? He said he wanted to kick somebodys a$$ over the gulf oil spill,(strictly for P.R. purposes)and then he takes responsibility for the whole thing. So,maybe if he takes up Yoga,he can kick his own a$$.Before he gets through,Bush and Cheney will look like the Beach Boys. |

Lest anyone think otherwise, community organizers are not leaders. The job of a community organizer is to focus other people on their problems and empower the people to change their own lives. We have a President of the United States who was not only a community organizer, but a failed community organizer. To quote our friend Jeremiah Wright, "the chickens are coming home to roost." Obama is so focused on who to blame for an accident that he cannot corral the resources to fix the problem. The media reports the Netherlands offered their expertise, but Obama turned it down, opting to cooperate with British Petroleum. Obama imposed a drilling moratorium that violates his own panel's recommendations. To cap it all off, he goes on morning television, uses a word inappropriate to use around children, and people are so distracted by his word choice they fail to pay attention to what he actually said: he's talking to experts not about solving the problem, but about who to blame. Barack Obama needs an enemy to operate. It explains every policy initiative he takes. In this case, he is his own worst enemy |

bubby it is truly horrid... but obama's plan to allow more off-shore drilling went on hold the moment it was clear what a catastrophy we have on our hands. i don't blame any one administration. many deregulations happened during the clinton administration. greed is the problem here...greed common to every administration for decades! and yes, the beaches are already in trouble. the smell of mobile and pensacola oily water can be detected even ten miles in from affected waters when the wind blows just right. name calling and blame laying need to be second to accomplishing an end to the underwater geyser and cleaning up the ecological devastation. then b.p. and whomsoever else would profit from this rig need to be sued for the multiple billions of dollars needed to restore the respective local economies. there can be no doubt that both our government and british petroleum have been lying from the beginning about the epochal armeggedon this incident has been. there's no reason to believe that either group will be honest about the impact, the amount spilled or the true cost of 'back to normal'. now is the time for people of every political bent to keep the pressure on whomsoever they can in order to honestly deal with the issues that will arise from this watery hell on earth. it is a time when we must put aside political rhetoric and as citizens join hands to 'git 'er done' it is sad that alternative energy to coal and oil wasn't in the interests of big money. that we must quit using these and fire the current corporate entities which benefit from such dirty energy is obvious! moon spirit

Rahm says to never let a crisis go by without taking advantage of it.This will be their response to this mess...they will pass the Cap and trade tax and tax our economy further into the red. There is no end in sight for the damage that is being done. The economy is so broke in California that they will soon be closing schools along with more hospitals. Then you are going to see plunderings and killings in the streets that will be controlled by roving gangs...and they want to take away our rights to defend ourselves. This society is completely insane.

What the hell happened - 545 people vs. 300 million people This is about as clear and easy to understand as it can be - read it!! The article below is completely neutral ...not anti republican or democrat. Charlie Reese, a retired reporter for the Orlando Sentinel has hit the nail directly on the head, defining clearly who it is that in the final analysis must assume responsibility for the judgments made that impact each one of us every day. It's a short but good read. Worth the time. Worth remembering! 545 vs. 300,000,000 EVERY CITIZEN NEEDS TO READ THIS AND THINK ABOUT WHAT THIS JOURNALIST HAS SCRIPTED IN THIS MESSAGE. READ IT AND THEN REALLY THINK ABOUT OUR CURRENT POLITICAL DEBACLE. Charley Reese has been a journalist for 49 years. 545 PEOPLE--By Charlie Reese Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.. Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits? Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes? You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does. You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does. You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does. You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does. One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country. I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank. I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes. Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party. What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits..... The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it. The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to. It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist. If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red .. If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ , it's because they want them in IRAQ If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way. There are no insoluble government problems. Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do. Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible. They, and they alone, have the power.. They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses. Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees... We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess! Charlie Reese is a former columnist of the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper. What you do with this article now that you have read it......... Is up to you. This might be funny if it weren't so darned true.

In yet another attempt to deflect blame for his administration’s disastrous lack of response to the runaway oil spill catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico, President Barack Obama is now pointing fingers at Congress. “I think it’s fair to say, if six months ago, before this spill had happened, I had gone up to Congress and I had said we need to crack down a lot harder on oil companies and we need to spend more money on technology to respond in case of a catastrophic spill, there are folks up there, who will not be named, who would have said this is classic, big-government overregulation and wasteful spending,” Obama said in an interview with Politico. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Ranking Republican Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) called the president's latest deflection attempt a fantasy. “It’s ironic and downright disingenuous for the president to try and deflect attention away from his policy of inaction by conjuring up this fantasy scenario where he blames Congress for stopping something he never even attempted to do,” Issa said. “This president didn’t hesitate to push through Congress a trillion-dollar stimulus bill, a trillion-dollar health care bill and somehow he has conjured up this fictitious scenario where Congress, after receiving ten Inspector General reports, ten GAO reports, and the findings of a congressional investigation, wouldn’t agree to reform MMS [Minerals Management Service]?” Today, Issa is surveying areas in and around New Orleans that have been affected by the spill to assess contributions to the disaster by what he called a dysfunctional and corrupt MMS. “If President Obama had exercised some long overdue leadership and called on Congress to address the cozy relationship between MMS and the industry they regulate, I would have been the very first to partner with him and give MMS the overhaul it desperately needs,” Issa added. Last October, Issa introduced H.R. 3736 which would strip the Department of the Interior of its management responsibilities for MMS and make the troubled collector of oil, mineral, and natural gas revenues an independent agency. Oversight and Government Reform Committee Republican staff made the case for that separation in a report last year concluding MMS would benefit from a "divorce from the Department of the Interior and the creation of dedicated funding, a new management structure, and leadership focused on MMS’ unique role in collecting royalties owed to the American people." Despite these efforts from Republicans, President Obama told Politico: “Some of the same folks who have been hollering and saying ‘do something’ are the same folks who, just two or three months ago, were suggesting that government needs to stop doing so much. Some of the same people who are saying the president needs to show leadership and solve this problem are some of the same folks who, just a few months ago, were saying this guy is trying to engineer a takeover of our society through the federal government that is going to restrict our freedoms.” “The President likes to talk about accountability, but in the same breath, looks for anyone else to blame but himself,” Issa noted. “I don’t know where President Obama gets his information, but the problems at MMS have been exhaustively documented and have spanned the better part of the three administrations. Nothing was precluding him from taking action the minute he was sworn in, but it wasn’t until a catastrophe hit that this became a top priority.” |

bubby...altho your posts are always an exercise in free speech, protect by and precious to all who believe in our constitution, such blame laying and finger pointing do nothing to save us from the excruciating damage and turmoil of the most recent assault of greedy companies on the life and livelyhood of those areas afflicted. no amount of rhetoric, fingerpointing or hindsight will save us from what is the most disasterous event to have assailed our coast in history... quite frankly, i'm sick to death of the blame game. as the gulf waters are sick to death with the contamination that greed made possible.
