Civilization
We wander the desert On our way To the Promise Land Forty years of struggle As State Corporate Churches Told us how to pray And what to say So we sailed an ocean To Jamestown And Plymouth Declaring freedom From bondage to spiritual faith Thirteen colonies A lucky number As we grow and organize And build We gather inner strength As we rise up and unite Against a foreign king With red coat bullies Who would tax us And hang our sons From trees We rebel together Risking our lives From spiritual faith to great courage We defeat our enemy That would oppress us In our own land We learned a hard lesson With dirt and blood From courage to liberty We conquer this great land Using our skills And working together In a coal mine On a wagon train Inventing and learning From liberty to abundance We section off the land With wire fences And a Trail of Tears And call it mine And not yours With a watchful eye And a guard dog And a shotgun From abundance to selfishness We get fat and lazy But don't worry Cause we'll have Maria Do it tomorrow As we forget The struggle of work And the pride of winning From selfishness to complacency The steak knives are sharp When we kill the fatted calf To share amongst ourselves And throw the left-overs away As our neighbors starve And need medical care From the drugs we sold them We congratulate each other On our genius Pimp Daddy Bankers Trading their souls For a few dollars To spend in Hell From complacency to apathy We sell our jobs To cheaper labor somewhere else And import everything we need Or ever wanted And worship at the temple of Wal-Mart And stand by and watch As the bankers steal The family farm And give it to Big Pharm As a lobby deal From apathy to dependency We never see it coming As jealous countries watch us Selfish children With our finger on the button Fighting each other They watch and wait With trembling fingers And jealous eyes Waiting for their chance To move in And collect on unpaid debts As we are evicted From our own land By soldiers with blue helmets We finally give in And bow before them And serve our new masters well From dependency back again To bondage As we dream again Of one day being free In our own land
