Artist’s Thoughts

ARTIST’S THOUGHTS
(a poem inspired by my short story series about Lily, a visually challenged painter)

A bare canvas sits before her
As she listens to the sun and clouds
She takes her brush in hand
Hoping she can capture their thought
and make them proud

She pauses and closes her eyes
Allowing the whispers to spill
Upon the virgin canvas
Waiting for the artist’s thoughts to fill

A circle of yellow gold
Appears to begin the story....

Then wisps of blue adorn and begin to glow
A touch of green here and there
To exclaim their presence as thoughts flow

She forgets not the white
nor the unexpected black
That trickle through the circle
To represent fiction and fact

And there is the red that slashes
across With splashes of brown
which cannot be lost

She wonders if others will understand
What she has painted with her timid hands

The circle of life amid the clouds of blue
And the flash of green as life renews

Will they see purity’s white
And negativity’s black
And understand that both will impact

The anger of red must not be forgotten
for it too is a part of life
Nor can the brown of dying moments
that hold the hands of grief, pain. And strife

She opens her eyes and wishes she could see
What lies before her but that is not to be

She feels a breath upon her cheek
And knows the Creator has words to speak.
“Well done, my child, you’ve told the story”
And she whispers to the sky above,
“And to you I give all the glory.”
