Wake Up Call

Waking slowly I lay there wondering
If the pain was still there
Dreading the effort required to get out of bed.
I lay a while longer taking my ease.

When I realized time was slipping away
A day new with sparkling dew
With unknown blessing waiting for me and you
I decided to reach out and grab this new day.

As I slipped out of bed all the pain was gone
And my heart knew through the night I slept not alone
Because the Master healer came to ease my pain
And I rose able to walk without a cane.

I sang with joy and gratitude to face the new day
With happy expectancy as ordinary events came into play
Gone were the feelings of despair and defeat
As feelings of well being rose up the new day
I was happy to greet.

~Jane Ward Smith
