Old Dirt Road

How many dreamers have passed this way
Travelers on life’s lonely trail
Pioneers, farmers, prospectors and cowboys
All with a story to tell,

Upon the promise of morning
Rainbows and fields of clover
Many are looking for a new way of life
Others, just wanting to start over,

By foot, by handcart, on horseback and wagons
Over the years this old road they’ve crossed
Through mishaps, sickness, hunger and heartache
The survivors buried those that were lost,

Along this byway, I’ve tramped many a mile
While I reflect on those that have passed
So many, not knowing their destination
Just praying their choice would be blessed,

Many weary souls have walked this trace
On bowed backs they carried their load
With the burdens of life, and a hope for the future
They traveled that; Old Dirt Road.

For the: Simplicity SFITB with Aelita
Fill in the blank
Phrase: Upon the _____ of morning

In my poem: “Old Dirt Road”
