Sticky Situation

Well there I was coming undone
innards falling apart
Mama would surely raise the roof
when spotting her dented car

whatever in the world could I do
to fix it good as new
hammer 'n nails just wouldn't work
felt truth be told, I'm screwed

out to the garage I scurried
searched both high 'n low
panic hugged insanity
knowing her mind might blow

shelves were filled with clutter
Dad never organized
as if miracles really happen
box toppled, caught my eye

duct tape rolls aplenty
Dad's fix it to be sure
but worry masked all hoping
would tape be held secure?

needed to repair cars damage
in time the thing would rust
trying to do a manly job
would it be break or bust?

with dinner time approaching
'n stomach tied in knots
almost done, better hurry
or be floored right here on the spot

sanding fast as a race horse
hours were running out
chasing tick tock, ev'ry minute
hoping to save sorry butt

with tape in place 'n primer dry
splashed on dabble of paint
then in walked Ma afuming
cussin still broken gate

her eyes ablaze...broom in hand
Dad was sunk knee deep
yet...
breathing with sighed relief
attention...
now off me

big hug melted dear Mom's heart
offered with brightest smile
'n though inner guilt was hiding
twas my a$$, after-all

yes...
a sticky situation
but...
she never did find out
thank goodness for band-aids...
called duct tape
lest...
this story I wouldn't dare tell

:)
