The Quiet Man

The Quiet Man
By Janice Marie

You pass him on the street everyday
A shy smile a tip of his hat
As he hurries on his way

He doesn’t say anything
He just nods his head
Much to shy to speak
And yet who would know what
He has so much hidden underneath

His mind is always working
Condensing all his thoughts
Into words of art that he shares with all
Tragic things have happened in his life
Writing is the way to deal with all his loss

No one knows this quiet man
Walking down the street
Every day at the same time and place
We both chance to meet

A shy smile a wave
And he and I part our ways
In side he is tormented by his past
A lonely lost love

A heart that was beaten
Tossed aside
Opening up old wounds
Nowhere to hide

Trying to keep all of this hurting inside
The loneliness he feels
On those so many special holidays

The need for companionship
has turned his heart to clay
Sitting down at his desk
he has to write his feelings today
