PICKIN' UP THE PIECES

I went out the other night
I was lookin' for 'myself'
Seems I was on 'hold somewhere'
And jus' sittin' on the shelf

You see, I'm pickin' up the pieces
Of a tired old love and yet
I wish I could just leave it
I would jus' as soon forget

It never was the kind of thing
That you loved me as well
I'm athinkin' twas the Devil
Who wove an ugly spell

For I was gettin' long just fine
And there you just appeared
Dear Lord what made me look
at you
Didn't e'en I know to be afraid

You laughed at just the right times
An' your smile blew mine away
An' when I saw those eyes of blue
Well, I lost 'it' all that day

You played the game so well dear
Told me to seek and I would find
But I never knew I'd be lookin'
For a big piece of my ole mind

I ain't pickin' up no pieces
that are yours -
Thought you should know
And you leavin' didn't kill me
I was ready you should go

But sometimes I might get lonely
Wishin' that I had been right
But Lord knows that I was lucky
When you walked off in the night

Aw, there ain't that many pieces
That are strewn out there of mine
I seem to find them daily when
I can fin' some extra time

You see now I've met a stranger
Well, 'dumb' is my middle name
I'm just hopin' that he's not
Into playin' all those games

Well I didn't mean to stop you
Please just get your stuff and go
I've been pickin' up my pieces
I jus' wanted you to know
