Fallow Heart

What is this yearning coursing through my marrow
That tills my heart and leaves my soul to bleed
A seed of thought was planted in the fallow
Now winnow winds have whiled away each seed
Now leveling and hashing of the harrow
Leave weariness and wanting in the furrow

What is this hollowness that does it’s sowing
When‘ere the sun does fall and moon does shine
With depth and breadth insidiously growing
Beyond all boundaries and through all time
A spreading bitter root in soil unseeded
Leave parched and empty fields of dreams depleted

Why does the sower scatter in such sorrow
Where once the lavender and thyme had grown
In truth our youth is wasted on the callow
When weeds of destiny in lives are sown
But had I known then of the autumn reaping
I’d sown more seeds of joy and not of weeping

What is this yearning coursing through my marrow
That tills my heart and leaves my soul to bleed
A seed of thought was planted in the fallow
And winnow winds have whiled away each seed
The leveling and hashing of the harrow
Leave weariness and wanting in the furrow
