' THE ROSE '
Soft and warm a summer breeze stirs
A soft tender whisper in my mind
Bringing to me
Thoughts of beauty and perfection
This whisper of wind
Brought with it a smile
And a feeling of warmth
And peaceful contentment
As I sit and take in thought
All the things around me
Whether made by the hand of man
Or created through the splendor of nature
A tranquil feeling comes over me
As there in a small meadow
With it’s grasses wavering
Leaves rustling gently in the trees
When my attention turns
To the edge of the meadow
There, standing all alone
A single red rose
It seems to almost dance
As it gently sways in the warm breeze
I gaze upon this beauty standing all alone
Soft inviting petals yearning for attention
How can one resist to run his fingers
Gently over the soft delicate petals
Seemingly to please this little rose
Stirring the sweet fragrance of passion
So inviting to the senses
Soft and gentle, the little rose seems to smile
Perfection in full bloom for all to savor
This little rose all alone
Strangely my heart seems to ache
With sadness as I know
I have to resist this urge to take her home
I will smile however as I walk away
From the pleasure of this moment
Knowing that even if this little rose
Loses her glorious bloom for a time
There will be another season
A time for her to shine
When spring once again brings the soft rains
And the nourishing breath of nature
She will smile and sway once again
To share her fragrance and beauty as before
As I reflect on the moment I realize
That a man can take that which is perfect
And through his own sometimes selfish and thoughtless reasoning
Destroys that which is beautiful
So, to that little rose in the meadow
With her soft, sensuous petals
The sweet fragrance, a gift, you share
The one standing all alone , swaying in the gentle breeze
You my little rose “are perfection
