Last Sober Dance

We used to dance so free
To that song about love
Our only witnesses
The moon and each other

Hear our laughter echo
Throughout the basement
That one magical night
When nothing else mattered

We know so well
That instant we became
As much of friends
As anyone could ever be

And to that same song
We danced to a thousand times
Never with our arms or legs
We danced with our souls

But times changed
We deprived ourselves of it
Thought we were okay
Just to be apart a while

And this has ended
Not the song itself
But the era in which
It made a difference
