Colors of Change (haibun)

Small pleasures appear
as others pass in the storm
Beginnings and ends

Some time ago life changed for me. Downward spirals began. Unknown destinations, a force to be reckoned with. Most powerful..the force screaming “let go”. just let go! This change experienced, does not play favorites does not separate rich from poor. It shows its darkest colors grabs on to anyone and takes you on ride of your life.

Swirling images
Color your rainbows unknown
Storms intensify

In trying periods I imagined a place where dreams lay, encased in gold. Could I get there through this storm! Maybe realize a dream that seemed impossible. Could I find the summer of a thousand dreams at the end of a rainbow?
This thought seemed to both ease and intensify my growing anger at the changes in my life.
Everything and everyone around me became something or someone I no longer wanted or needed. As many friends deserted bitterness grew. I knew this desertion was from a lack of understanding not of my changes, but fear of the changes in me that my friends could not face. Then came new friends in unlikely places..only to prove they were not friends at all...life is like that...we live...we hurt...we learn.
..Long hours spent writing about this and my feelings were a saving grace!

On a paper scrap
Haphazard thoughts scribbled
An answer revealed

Life can change in unexpected ways. But it does not have to change you, or who you are.
It took almost four years for me to understand this! I read something recently, and wrote it down. “The true character of a human being is revealed during times of crisis.”... More recently I have discovered this in a very good friend, who has faced also a life crisis. This friend has an amazing and powerful ability to project such positivism and honesty that is difficult to ignore! One can only sit back in awe and learn from his attitude and his strength. One is truly grateful for this one of a kind friendship one is thankful for a friend who needs you but also knows you need him

Across horizons
Power of the possible
Understanding flows
