Yancy

Now Yancy he's a cowboy
But he doesn't own a cow
He has a dog named Riley
Two chickens and a sow
His work is drinkin’ whiskey
And his fun is kickin' dirt
And the only thing he's missin'
Are some buttons off his shirt

Ole' Yancy lives in Cobweb
In a shack by the saloon
He came here twenty years ago
And vowed to leave real soon
But the horse he was a ridin'
Just up and walked away
So I guess he'll be in Cobweb
Until his dyin’ day

Well Yancy he is not too smart
But somehow he gets by
And he doesn't always tell the truth
But he'll never tell a lie
And he doesn't talk about the things
Better left unsaid
He'll just kick the dirt and groan real low
And sorta scratch his head

One day a woman came to town
Her name was Selma Jo
Poor Yancy he fell wild in love
And said he'd be her beau
But Selma wanted more from life
Than Yancy's shack and dog
And she didn't want to share her bed
With chickens and a hog

Yeah, Yancy's heart was broken
When Selma went away
But a man has gotta be a man.
Or so that's what they say
'Ya cain't let a little thing like love
Throw yer chickens in the street
And if old Riley had to go
Then who would warm his feet'

So Yancy's still in Cobweb
With his chickens and his hog
And it ain't so bad that Selma's gone
'Cause he's still got his dog
And when he's feelin' lonely
He'll put on his good shirt
And take a swig of whiskey
And kick a pile of dirt
