Mother

Mother

The years have passed so quickly
yet seems like yesterday
Mom, I still remember
our talks, the tears and play

Beside your bed I waited
thoughts waltzing through my mind
the echo of your laughter
always danced with mine

I watched you sleep, and wondered
how long would this go on
your hand in mine, I whispered
Mama, I'll be strong

All my thoughts ran astray
to another place and time
a five year old in pigtails
you reading nursery rhymes

Thinking back, reflecting
on days of you and me
the many special moments
us giggling in our tea

I smiled in recollection
as mem'ries filled my mind
then came the realization
I'd have to say goodby

Lines tiptoed 'cross your forehead
'n lips curled up abit
watching you sleep, I wondered
were Angel's 'hind your lids

While you slept, and lingered
deep sadness froze in place
one lonely tear escaped me
all others, had to wait

Your blue eyes slowly opened
scanned corners of the room
something deep inside me
knew you were going home

The child within was sobbing
afraid to let you go
emotions toppled over
like a wilted rose

With one last squeeze, I realized
your hand was icy cold
a different look ascended
your face looked grey 'n old

Each breath became more shallow
please take her now, I Prayed
allow her peaceful slumber
you smiled 'n slipped away

Now I watch the Heaven's
eyes search for where you are
all my love and kisses
blown to the brightest star

Days of yore still surface
when thoughts all run astray
a tender hug embraces
wipes lonely tears away

At times I hear sweet whispers
carried 'pon a breeze
and Mom, I know for certain
you're still here with me
