THE FORGIVENESS BRIDGE

Where does one find forgiveness

I pleaded to God above

He told me child you find it

When you finally learn to love

Forgiveness is not easy

For the mortal man it seems

Yet everyone will walk that road

And it won't be in dreams

No, this road you walk by daylight

For Hate can all but kill

You have to learn to love someone

So a bridge you need to build

That is what destroys in life

Our days of passing through

We find ourself absorbed in hate

Who it destroys is you

You say you just cannot forgive

This person has hurt you so

What if you carry it with you

Through this life as you go

Then when you get to Heaven

Perhaps you too shall find

You have forgiveness to ask for

That just really slipped your mind

It's God that's keeping books you see

And right there on our page

All He has to do is look

Nothing's there we can erase

No, only by the grace of God

Are we forgiven too

If He will do that for us

Are we not expected to

Of course this person hurt you

Perhaps right to the bone

Tis him who has the price to pay

Unless you take it home

You live it day after day

It eats your soul and then

Your bitterness increases

Which you have to know is sin

Now how to build a bridge

Is not easy at it's best

Sometimes it takes more courage

And it is life's bitter test

For one must take that hate

And throw it down below

That's why you have to build a bridge

To have somewhere to throw

All that hate and hurtful time

Thrown in the waters below

It may take a little while

But tides do ebb and flow

One more little thing dear

I must say lest you regret

You have not begun to forgive

If you don't try to forget

That can be even harder

To get this from your mind

But that is what God asks of us

Or we'll be left behind

For one cannot be forgiven

Who cannot forgive another

That's just the way it is

Whether it be stranger or brother

The pain is all the same you see

Don't make it your lifetime

Let it go. Build that bridge

Leaving all the past behind

Others may not understand

Nor may they be that strong

For building bridges can be hard

And take sometimes too long

Where does one find forgiveness

I pleaded to God above

He told me child you find it

When you finally learn to love
