Lord Help Me, I Tried

I tried to resist.

Really, I did.

But it just kept on
Calling.

Calling.

Calling my name.

I tried to step back,
But it was as if my feet
Were put on backwards,
And were glued to the floor,

And fear was perched
Permanently
On my shoulder
Forever more.

And meantime,

It just kept on calling.

Calling.

(sigh)

I knew.

I knew that if I gave in,
Thunder would roll
And all manner of evil
Would befall
All over me.

Ooooh. I wish it would just quit calling.

Calling.

Covering my ears,
And closing my eyes,
I tried and tried to resist
It’s allure.

But I just couldn’t.

And in a moment of weakness,
I REACHED OUT.

AND I GRABBED THEM.

Yes, my friend. I did that.

Forgive me,
I know I have sinned.

But there they were,

O-R-E-O’s.

Ahhhhh. Pure Bliss.

But it wasn’t until they
Had almost reached my mouth
That I realized,

ALL THE CENTERS HAD BEEN LICKED OFF!!!

EEEEUUUUU!!!

YUCK!!!

Poor Oreo’s.

Poor Me.

Poor poem.

Who could possibly write,
At a time like this???

And I just may have to quit singing my song,
And suffer a case of permanent writer’s block,
Unless SOMEONE takes pity on me...

AND SENDS ME A NEW PACKAGE OF COOKIES!!!
