A Single Red Rose- Part of Donna' Story

There is something very special about a red rose to my family, Let me tell you about it
My youngest daughter was three years old and was visiting her aunt. She stayed the
night because I was ill. During the night she heard her aunt's baby daughter cry. She thought she would be miss big and get the baby's bottle. On her way to the kitchen she tripped over a space heater and caught her nightgown on fire, by the time the fire was out, she had third degree burns on 60 % of her body. .
After several days at the hospital, she was judged stable enough to have her dressings changed. Back then, this was done in the operating theatre . She was also scheduled for wound debridement , a very painful procedure. Because she was little , very weak and my child, I was very scared.
Just before they came to take her away, a traveling preacher (he called himself) came into her room . He carried a single red rose. He placed it on her bed and touching her hair , told her not to be afraid , that the angels were there. Turning to me he told me not to worry , everything would be ok
He told me to make sure the nurses took the rose with her and to leave it in her bed in the operating room holding area , where it would be held to bring her back. He said when the rose returns, it should still be perfect and should show you God's promise that your child will be more then O.K..
I did as he said , beliving the rose could never survive the cold and the gases they used in surgery back then. Hours passed and when the door opened to bring her back in I was a surprised moma
She was layng there, wide awake a big smile on her face and the perfect red rose clasped in her tiny fist. Well I never saw the preacher again but my daughter is now a fully grown woman with a child of her own. Perhaps this doesn't sound like anything
special to you but since every doctor and they were many, gave her only a 10 to 20 %
chance of survival, I took the preacher at his word that the rose was a special message meant to bring me hope and had been sent by God
God let me keep her after many many surgeries and lots of days of unrelenting pain for an additional 50 years
I Thank him for every single minute of those years and that one perfect rose,
