My Friend Harrietta

Let me tell you about Harrietta
The sweetest lady I ever knew
I remember when she was so young
Everything was bright and new

I watched her grow and learn
She was so smart in everything she did
We played together for hours
Soon I realized she was not a kid

Then motherhood came and
She gave birth to my cheers
Teaching her young ones the way
Our love grew closer and more dear

When she had her second child
Something went wrong that day
The delivery was not to be
I've never been so helpless, nothing to say

She pushed everyone away
and went into the dark to die
She never whimpered
She never cried

Right before she left
She looked into my eyes
I saw the depth of her love
As rich as blue of the sky

Then she passed and I cried
My friend was gone
My hamster had left me
and now I was all alone
