A Winter Night

Winter’s night crawls inside and sits by me.
We share the quiet and the heavens high above.
Starlight twinkles on the grounds snowy coat.
The night and I wonder, where are you now, my love?

Is it your hand that touches my cheek so lightly?
The wind is far too cold for the warmth I feel.
Or is it the breath of an angel passing near;
So comforting, so caring, I know the touch is real.

Is it your heart that caresses mine and calms me?
The meadow too astir with life to produce tranquility.
Perhaps the memory of a night we talked long ago,
Your gentle words of understanding I keep with me.

Footprints that crush the starlights’ diamonds into paste
As deeper into the snow filled forest I now stroll
My heart warm with memories, but aching so much inside
Solitude trimmed with the loneliness that so well I know.
