Backpack Story IV

When we started out we met a friend
Such a big hearted chap
She was a big help to all of us
Because she loaned us her map

We had no map of the Appalachian Trail
And didn't know we needed one
We had just started out on this journey
With lots of stuff it felt like a ton

Our friend helped us with our packs
I am so glad that she shared
We needed to carry the load on our hips
We just weren't prepared

She had a strap around her hips
It was part of her backpack you see
Ours were old and they had no straps
So we jury rigged that was the key

We had some belts among our stuff
So we tied them around us tight
The weight then rested on our hips
And that's what made it alright

The map was also a blessing, you see
It showed us springs along the route
The camping sheds weren't that important
But the water we couldn't do without

We made it twenty nine day
Because we had lots of help
The hikers cared for one another
We didn't even have to yelp
