The Unattainable

You're what I've been waiting for; you're like me, but just the opposite
The light dances between us, the energy grows, and you're the source
Yet completely forbidden
We're so close, yet so far
I could reach out and touch you, but you'll never hold me
This barrier of flesh stands in our way
Locking me in this prison of lust
Where I mope until your song lifts me away from the rusting chains
The moon I dream by, that is you
A shadow, a fantasy, yet something I can never turn to the reality I dreamt
Such a soft, icy slumber, where I want to stay
This imaginary creation of images, the unpaintable picture
As the sun comes putting, putting an end to the happiness which I slumbered
Attempting to lock me out, engulf me, lose me in the forest night I call home
Holding me back from this brewed kiss I have played out in my head
Twisting this thought into a crime, hiding him in my guilt
This cloud of smoke rising, revealing the lie you truly are
To deny me of the happiness, I truly want to make mine
Marking us as a scar to your already tattered canvas
Such sweet forbidden fruit
How I dream of the long nights
Nights I hold you in my head
For your embrace seems to be forever proving unattainable
