I FELT YOU STANDING BESIDE ME

For my daughter, Lori.
Yes, I’m sure your Dad was
beside you for a moment.

I felt you standing beside me today,
unseen, your love held me near.
I wished I could reach and hug you again,
I wished you could dry my tears.

I wished I could travel back into time,
to share with you one more day.
We could go to a lake and fish a while,
we could talk and laugh and play.

But I know I cannot change the past,
no matter how hard I try,
so I’ll cherish the memories you left me,
and sometimes I’ll just sit and cry.

But Dad I know I will see you again,
so wait for me there on the shore;
we will spend eternity sharing,
together forever more.
