Lady Lost

She wanders alone through these halls at night

Seeking what has been.

Faceless and without form

She has no need for quiet.

Wending a way with no footsteps

to show in dust and refuse left by other lives..

The hallway is infinitely long and deep in shadow

A haloed light shines dimly --a pinpoint in the distance.

Gaining, and entering a brighter room,

She walks without sound unwilling to intrude

She speaks without words, she fears to be heard.

She sits on fine chairs with no imprint of her there.

She combs her curls not leaving a hair.

When company comes, no eyes look her way.

In crowds of people no one will stay.

A long box there, where people can see

Shiny, rectangle mahogany.

Satiny pillow, tufted roof shine

Standing above, those she left behind.
