The Ancient One

I crept through the darkness, searching for something,
Anything to make you feel better. Beautiful stranger...
Hiding behind poetry I left my world behind to seek
Another, more loving and greatful for my embrace
And the touch of woman. It's the fear that guides me
Forever, for always, for I do understand my fate
But fear it. If you wonder into that dark valley
An ocean will be wept for you, like for all
Who rot before their time.

I am my own totem, my sacred symbol
Branded like a scar where your own are hidden
Folded beneath those mirrored waters
Your face showed me... in darkness and shadows
I was infected and yet survived, the kiss of blood
That spread it's poisoned wings through my veins.
Knee-deep in hatred I struggled through that stinking world
Searching for someone to love me...
You know that. Ahh... my prince, you're soul is heavy now
Too heavy with care to fly away? Look for me
When the snow melts and I am exposed
Fast asleep, dead to everything save he-
Save they who truly, truly love me.

I am she who died to rise again forever
And so are you. Caught up singing in the middle of the night
Caught in the headlights, frozen with fright
I made my way up to a second paradise
But could not find you, Pharaoh. My Pharaoh.
I sought the spirit of a prince to serve me
And the soul of a king who'd deceive me
And the hand of Man and God to beat me.
I sought apart from the throng, found my place
My fate, waiting up for you, falling asleep between the daisies
That made hand-cuffs for my wrists
From Angus Og and the Goddess Bridget, bound me
With silver fire, so I fell asleep, died quietly
And without complaint, that my legend and my fake virtues
May be relived again and again
And again.

I am reaching out across the Pacific
I am going to tell you what it feels like to die
And leave behind scars deeper than you could ever believe
I am going to make a world for you
And bury you deep inside my heart
You'll brighten up the foundations
And no one will ever hear you scream.
