My Own Man

crying

I've always been my own man, to proud to shed a tear.
My Dad said, real men don't cry son, tough we must appear.
Tell me, have you ever seen your Grandpa cry?
Suck it up and be a man, after all you are a guy.

Well that was fifty years ago, and now I'm a Grandpa too.
I spent most of my young life with my mom, she said that crying stuffs not true.
Me I was a hard head had to find out on my own.
Went to war, saw people die, I guess I should have known.

My momma always told the truth, she would look me in the eye.
Someday you will find out that it's okay for men to cry.
I tried to be a tough old dude, when my kids were growing up.
I thought for sure my heart would break. when my youngest son, lost his little pup.

Some how I managed to hold it in, remembered what my Dad had said.
I just turned and walked away, had to clear my head.
It didn't really hit me until my momma passed away.
These tears I cry are for my mom, may she rest in peace today.

My kids are all grown up now, and I have grandkids too.
I've told them it's alright to cry, it's part of being you.
I really miss my momma, now she's an Angel in the sky.
And me I'm not ashamed anymore of these tears I cry.

Written for my Mom, who Passed away a couple of years ago. May she rest in peace.
