Things I Knew
From that moment I knew....
Heartbreak would be
My constant companion
For days to come...
And those days would slip away,
One into the next, and night
Would follow, a willing hostage.
And I knew...
Life would continue,
As does a windmill caught in breath
Of random winds...
And broken hearts
That never mend do keep beating
As would mine.
I knew...
Dreams would linger,
Neither of us willing
To let go of the other....
And time... it would soothe
Those wounds that bleed
Tears of mourning.
But I did not know...
That a broken heart
Could not keep time.
