BIRD WITH A BROKEN WING
Because I smile even
through invisible tears
no one knows of my
anxiety and fears
Because I look so
calm on the outside
no one knows the
turmoil going on
inside
Because I put makeup
on and try to be the
best I can be
everyone thinks
there is nothing wrong
with me
Masked depression
can be a terrible thing,
you are bound to your
own thoughts, like a bird
to the earth with a broken
wing
It isn't something that
you just 'snap out of',
as many people are
led to believe
It is an illness in which
we internally grieve
One cannot expect
others to understand
the full impact it has
on you, as the person
going through it
rarely understands it
too
However, if you know
of someone going
through this, please
just be kind as there
is nothing more
fragile than your very
own mind.
