that night so late

I often wonder was it fate
that sent the storm that night so late

with wind that blew so hard the rain
it pounded on my window pane

to call to me in sleep ... awake!....

come to the window a look to take .....

come to the window .... a look to take

and when I did I saw below
the cafe where we used to go

just below across the street
now closed ... the cafe were we'd meet

and as I did I thought I saw
through half closed eyes an open door

and through the door way in the rear
I thought I saw a glimmer there

a glimmer from a candle's wick
on which a flame danced slow then quick

a glimmer of the faces bright
who's shadows danced 'pon walls each night

a glimmer of the times there spent
and wondered why and where to they went

I thought I saw a glimmer there
in the booth way in the rear

but 'twas not there ... nor 'pon the pane
was there pounding ... nor was there rain

the pounding was my heart you see
and the rain 'twas not but tears from me

caused by a Journey Back In Time
and the reason for this silly rhyme

oh how I miss it .... and the when's
of times spent there .... with now gone friends
