School Days - School Days

When my first darling daughter
Was old enough for school
I told she was going
She acted like a fool

She grabbed my leg and told me
She wouldn't go away
She couldn't live without me
Not even for one day

Still when I talked petty dresses
Her excitement it would rise
Soon I saw sweet acceptance
There in her pretty eyes

So on the first school morning
I rushed upstairs to say
Come on it's time for breakfast
School, it starts today

She ate her breakfast calmly
Then I put her on her bus
In only 2 short hours
Well she was back with us

The nurse had sent a note home
It said she had a rash
The nurse thought it was measles
She was willing to bet cash

Next morning all the bumps were gone
And so I sent her back
In another pretty school dress
I took from off the rack

Again she came back home again
Red bumps just like before
So I grabbed her and I headed
For the family doctor's door

He said she's just allergic
To something that she touched
And this red rash she's sporting
Ain't really very much

I sent her back next morning
With the note from doc in hand
So kindergarten started
And she told me it was grand

So she got up every morning
You couldn't hold her back
And she never had another
Of the strange red bump attacks
