Losing You

Losing You

Your passing was not announced
in sobs of denial nor was it
the whisper of a final breath.
I kept waiting for both
but neither came.
The world did not come to an end
nor did it race forward at breakneck speed.
It simply lay there, frozen,
like me, not knowing what to do.
Words did not comfort
but neither did silence.
Nothing could breach the numbness
nor could anything touch the pain.

No, losing you
was not what I expected it would be...

It still isn't.
