Ships That Don’t Come In

She had his lunch all ready
as he scampered out the door,
he kissed her on the forehead
this woman he adored.

He headed for the harbor
amidst the thickened fog,
“The ship must go out,” he thought
despite the fearsome smog.

The crewmen were all waiting
to set out to the sea,
just like any other day
any weather it could be.

To all of them, he greeted
the anchor pulled up tight,
and out to sea they ventured
without sunshine for their light.

the ship sailed fast and mighty
as the wind began to blow,
but no one was really worried
they still had a ways to go.

The sky began to darken
like night time it became,
lighting started flashing
the captain did not refrain.

He called for full speed engine
as the mighty thunder roared,
but all were on the deck
this storm, never seen before.

The rain came down like a waterfall
and the wind at gale force speed,
The ship took on much water
too much for them to heed.

The captain stood tall and sturdy
but knew that in the end,
if the gale storm continued
there were no options to contend.

She stood by the kitchen door
the children at her side,
thinking about her Captain
while looking towards the sky.

No storm like this she’d seen
and certain it would not end,
knowing in her hurting heart
the danger that the storm could send.

She gathered all the children close
and together, all said a prayer
asking God to stop this storm
this reality, turning into a nightmare.

And then all to suddenly
there was no thunder nor no wind
that’s when, in her heart she knew
that she had become a victim of
ships that don’t come in!

But God does hear prayers
and He controls the storms
This captain and his crew
did not succumb to any harm.

The front door came open
And there stood her man
His ship did come in
and would certainly go out again!
