Don’t judge her

Be careful with your words
They can cut deeper than,
A knife always remember,
This was not her choice in life

No one ask to be abused,
They don’t choose
To live this way,
Don’t add to their shame,
By casting blame

You may not even know her
You don’t know of the strife
In her life
You’ve not walked in her shoes
You have not paid
Her price

You mean words
Can hurt her sprits,
And it’s been hurt enough,
Offer her words of comfort,
Something she never hears,
Enough of

People say,
she must have asked for it,
She must,
have made him mad,
Or they say
Why does she stay?
If he treats her that way

But the words,
you say can cut deeply,
Right down to her very core,
They may make her wonder if,
Her life is worth living anymore

She lives in shame
From the abuse
Then she hears people talk
That hurts her even more
Because they don’t know
The hell that she goes through

If you’ve never been abused,
This is something
You won’t understand,
But never assume,
because she stays,
That she deserves to be,
Treated this way

He can put such fear in her
He has taken herself esteem
He will do whatever it takes
To keep her there with him

He will threaten her life
And the life of their kids
If she leaves
She won’t live
He will find her one day
And make her pay
For thinking that
She could walk away

He can use,
their children as pons
In his dirty little games
If she walks out
He will take her children
Away

He knows she has no money
To take care of their kids
He knows she has no money
To make it on her own

He keeps her like a prisoner
Inside their own home
He won’t allow her to work
To make money of her own

He knows she depends on him
For their every need
He has control over her
It’s all part of the game

He knows where she is going
He knows where she has been
He won’t allow her
To have not even,
one single friend
No one for her to confide in

He took her away from her family
Filled her head with lies
In bed alone she cries at night
Life was not always like this,
It used to be good,
Then something,
inside him snapped,
Changed him,
into a different man

Who would believe her stories?
In front of others
He puts on a show,
If she were to speak up,
There would be hell to pay,
When they are alone

So she goes through life,
in pain
Inside and out
Please don’t say
She asked for it
She has been battered
Enough

If you see a woman
With bruises on her face
Don’t look at her with disgust
Or turn and walk
Away
Offer her a smile
A gentle word or two
Don’t judge her because
She stays

You don’t know her life
Or the hell,
that she’s been through
Just offer her
Some words of comfort
Something she needs
From you
