Special Rose
The little girl inside me
still calls to him at night
soft whispers on my pillow
spoken in twi'lite

Pretending we're together
enwrapped within his wings
into dreams he waltzes
just behind my lids
~ ~ ~
When day is done and silent
I listen for his words
reflecting back on memory
as Daddy's little girl
~ ~ ~
I imagine he's still with me
'fore evening lights go out
feel kisses on my forehead
then whisper nighty nites
~ ~ ~
His smile that said 'I love you'
with wishes for sweet dreams
goodnight's went on forever
or so it always seemed
~ ~ ~
I remember all the lullabye's
nursery rhymes he told
seems like only yesterday
although so long ago
~ ~ ~
I miss those goodnight kisses
'n often eyes will tear
his little girl is lonesome
wishing he were here
~ ~ ~
Always I'll remember
the Daddy I adored
mem'ries dance with heartsongs
hand in hand, once more
~ ~ ~
Whene'er we danced together
I was his special rose
giggling from the belly
while balanced top his toes
~ ~ ~
Oh yes, my daddy loved me
no need to second guess
my knight in shining armor
to me the very best
~ ~ ~
I was his little princess
with pigtails tied in bows
wanting to be a grownup
dressed in mother's clothes
~ ~ ~
My heart still hears the melody
of daddy's manly laugh
blankets of warm yesteryears
bring comforts from the past
~ ~ ~
Sometimes, when I was little
I'd climb 'pon waiting knee
there we'd sit 'n cuddle
'til I fell asleep
~ ~ ~
Reflecting on my wedding
that special dance with me
I wiped away his teardrops
was not supposed to see
~ ~ ~
My Father was a mentor
taught me right from wrong
believed in me, gave courage
his strength made me strong
~ ~ ~
Although I'm now a woman
the child within still cries
I speak to Dad, in whispers
'til our bye 'n bye
~ ~ ~
He's just beyond the rainbow
eyes watching over me
o're the blue horizon
his spirit ever free
~ ~ ~
When my days are over
comes time to leave this world
Daddy will be waiting
to greet his little girl
