June 14-Flag Day

I can always remember
June 14-Flag Day...

It's also the day
my little sister
Sharon was born...

One of the few citizens
of our little town
who was actually born
in the small hospital...

A real beauty
everyone remembers her
and still asks how she is
even though she died
at the age of 37...

A photographer's dream
seemed every place
she went people were
always wanting to take
her picture...

The camera loved her
and so did I...

A winning smile
and heart of gold
who knew she'd always
be young and never
ever grow old...

A tomboyish side
yet a beauty queen
she was every
teenage boy's dream...

How I remember those
fights they'd have
one trying to out do
the other
just so she would
choose him...

I remember how
the other girls
would scream
and get so upset
'cause the guys
followed her like
puppies after cream...

Smart and beautiful
yet she would work
with her hands
do plumbing
and electrical work
even had her picture
in the paper
for winning
a building store challenge
yes...she beat all the men...

She was proud
and patriotic
always reminding folks
to fly their flag
June 14th
Flag Day
my birthday
she'd say...

She's even buried
in the military section
of the cemetery
with flags lining the road
in front of her grave...

So on this Flag Day
please remember to
show your pride
and honor those
who live and die
for our flag...

I'll sing a song of
remembrance
for 'The Grand Old Flag'
and think of my sister too...

Happy Flag Day...

Happy Birthday Sharon
I'll always remember you!
