Fences

Fences come in many
shapes and forms
some beautiful and unique
others deviate from the norm

Right now I have a regular
chained link fence 5 ft. high
but with things changing
soon I'll say goodbye

To my trusted fence
which has stood guard
nearly 40 years
protecting me and my yard

It'll be replaced
by one topped with
razor wire
and about 12 ft. high
oh how this raises my ire

I hate to see
the old one go
so many memories attached
but times have changed
as you now know

For my personal safety
the new one
will take its place
brings tears to my eyes
and they roll down my face

Because of mean
hate filled folks
I must now live
in a fortress
behind barbwire
to keep those
who would attack and harm
from their desire

Such a sad world
when people have to live
as if they are in jail
while crooks and criminals
roam absolutely free
oh how this irritates me!
