That's What I Thought

That's What I Thought

Wearily I have fought
My mouth, my brain
To utter those words
That I really thought

This battle so disarming
As you whisper in my ear
I try to find the words
That I really thought

Long I have sought
An end for the pain
Unable to form those words
That I really thought

Your smile so charming
Your beauty so near
My words have no meaning
That I really thought

With my soul I fumble
Reaching for how to say
The images flooding my mind
That I really thought

The agony it has wrought
Slowly driving me insane
Holding back those words
That I really thought

Across my lips I stumble
As time flies away
Searching for those words
That I really thought

My mouth, dry, is caught
I try so hard in vain
To find those words
That I really thought

Time flies quickly away
The lights, the music. the dance
Words escape what I find
That I really thought

How easy it should be
To open and speak my mind
Saying all those things
That I really thought

Once again I did not say
And hazard the chance
To speak the words
That I really thought

Perhaps I fear me
Or what I might find
If I were to say the words
That I really thought

Can I hold you tight
Whisper in your ear
And say the words
That I really thought

Will you say yes or no
Should I chance your scorn
If I were to say those things
That I really thought

Can I revel in your sight
And with words so clear
Speak of those images
That I really thought

Should I stay or go
Inside I am torn
Questioning the things
That I really thought

All the things I fear
Alive when you are near
Will it be wrong or right
This is what I must fight

Such simple feelings
Send me reeling

The words I use to hide
The passion I feel inside

This battle I have fought
For that is what I thought
