Joys Of Yesteryear

Remember those days so long ago
Growing up was so much fun
My memories take me there without woe
Family outings a joy being loved by everyone

My Mother would often send me to the store
A small one in the neighborhood
For bread and eggs, both less than fifty cents
The prize was penny candy if I would

When my birthday came around
Grandma would come as a guest
I knew to the candy store I would be bound
The dime she gave me was the best

My clothes were ones my sisters wore
With a little lace or special stitching
No one ever knew where they were tore
There was never stiffness nor itching

When I learned to drive at sixteen
Daddy always said 'You pay for the gas'
That's the way it always had been
With the three dollars I saved we had a blast

Those were the 'Good old Days'
When you appreciated all you were you given
I will cherish these memories always
Love and joy was what my heart was receiving
